# 6 of the best dog walks in Cornwall

Last checked: 22 September 2026.

Six checked Cornwall dog walks, from sheltered estate paths and broad forest tracks to open farmland and the South West Coast Path. Each profile has an exact start, an official route and the dog rule that matters on the ground.

The set spreads across Cornwall rather than repeating beach stops already covered by the separate dog-friendly beaches guide. It includes short and longer circuits, an accessible surfaced option and one coast-path route.

Livestock, forestry work, weather and temporary access conditions can change. Save the official route, carry water and a fixed lead, and follow current signs or staff instructions when they differ from this checked guide.

## 01. Lanhydrock Great Wood and Beech Avenue walk

**Distance:** 2.5 miles (4km)
**Time:** 1 hour 15 minutes
**Ground:** Mostly easy estate paths, with a bumpy section and one short steep incline
**Start:** Lanhydrock main car park, Bodmin, PL30 4AB

### What dog owners need to know

Dogs are welcome on leads across the estate. Use a short lead around sheep and other grazing livestock, and keep dogs out of the wildflower meadow because ground-nesting birds use it.

### Before you go

The main car park is pay and display, with free parking for National Trust members. Toilets and an accessible toilet are by the Park Cafe. Park Cafe and Stables Cafe welcome dogs, and dog bins are available around the estate.

**Watch for:** The route includes one short steep incline and a bumpy section. Current estate signs and livestock instructions take priority.

## 02. Cotehele circular walk

**Best for:** A quay, wooded valley and historic estate
**Distance:** 1.7 miles (2.72km)
**Time:** 1 hour 15 minutes
**Ground:** Made and unmade woodland paths, muddy in places, with some steep slopes

### The route

Follow the twelve-stage National Trust circuit from Cotehele Quay beside the Morden stream. Optional short spurs reach the mill and weir before the main line climbs through woodland to the house and returns to the quay.

[Open the official Cotehele route](https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cornwall/cotehele/cotehele-circular-walk)

### What dog owners need to know

Keep dogs on leads on the estate and under close control on the paths. Use particular care wherever livestock are present. The garden, cafe, shop and gallery areas have extra short-lead or exclusion rules, but this estate circuit does not require a garden visit.

### Before you go

Quay parking costs £1 for up to 1 hour, £3 for up to 3 hours or £5 for more than 3 hours, and is free for National Trust members. Toilets, an accessible toilet, refreshments, water bowls and dog bins are available around the quay and estate.

**Watch for:** Woodland paths can be muddy and some slopes are steep. Treat the mill and weir as optional spurs rather than part of the main circuit.

## Planning your Cornwall dog walk

Match the route to the conditions and your dog. Cardinham provides the smoothest surface, while Morwenstow has steep ground and exposed cliff edges. Carry a fixed lead for livestock and road crossings, check live manager notices, and recheck Cardinham's temporary works before travelling.
